As the sun comes up on Saturday morning, there's a ton of optimism about the rest of the Notre Dame basketball season after a big win over a tough TCU team on Friday night. On the other hand, there's quite a bit of concern over star guard Markus Burton and just how bad the injury was.
For now, things are still very much up in the air. After the game, head coach Micah Shrewsberry said he wasn't sure how bad the injury was or even what it was. All he could say was that it was an "ankle area" injury. Now, a new angle of Burton right after the injury occurred shows a player in undeniable pain, and things don't look great.
TCU beat writer Nick Girimonte posted a short video to Twitter on Friday night showing the Notre Dame all-world player being led off the court. In the video, two members of the training staff had to brace Burton on either side as he could put no weight on his left leg.
Notre Dame’s Markus Burton exits the TCU game with what appears to be a left knee injury, not able to put any weight on his left leg.

How serious is Markus Burton’s injury for Notre Dame’s season?
As he leaned on both staffers, Burton hobbled slowly off the court, grimacing as he took every step.
Burton went down a little over halfway through the first half of the 87-85 overtime win over TCU. He landed awkwardly with his left foot while scoring a basket. He didn't come back out onto the court until after halftime, and when he did, he was wearing a walking boot and using crutches.
It's safe to assume Notre Dame is running tests on Burton on Saturday and may have an update later this weekend or Monday at the latest. However, the level of pain he was in, and the tools he needed to use to come back to the Fighting Irish bench, hint that he'll miss a few games at the very least. The good news there is that Shrewsberry's crew has three straight buy games against Idaho, Evansville, and Purdue Fort Wayne before the ACC schedule starts.
