With summer workouts getting underway for the college basketball world, Notre Dame head coach Micah Shrewsberry met with the media last week to give a bit of a preview of what the Irish faithful can expect from this year's edition.

Chief among the things ND fans will need to get used to are the loss of all-world guard Markus Burton and the addition of a whopping nine new players to the roster. In essence, Shrewsberry has to start his rebuild in South Bend over again, but he'll have to do it with watchers of the program having far less patience.

"Oh yeah, that's kind of different, it was a little different. It was kind of fun," the Notre Dame basketball coach said about all the new faces on his squad. "I think we're outside of two weeks in so we're out of the name tag phase. We don't have to wear name tags anymore. I think we all know who each person is. But, yeah, it's been kind of fun. Just kind of putting this group together and getting a chance to see what they do and watch them grow together."

Shrewsberry was asked just how the team is simultaneously dealing with all the new bodies while figuring out where those guys go in replacing the number of players who left.

"Yeah, it's just that you're just moving so quickly from one thing to the next. That's all you can really do. So, having a plan, put the plan in place, spending a lot of time talking with Pat Garrity and working with him and working with the staff and finding what the alternative is going to be. And then from there, it's just full steam ahead on putting the best group together that we can put together."

Shrewsberry went on to say that he operates on the notion that he can only control what he can control. The message behind that approach is that he can't waste time getting angry about how many players chose to leave after another frustrating season in South Bend.

He added that time worrying about where guys like Cole Certa or Burton went should be spent on making the players who stuck around and joined the Notre Dame basketball program this offseason better. Micah Shrewsberry knows that this season could very easily be one where his seat gets very hot. Hopefully that allows him to focus on doing the little things right.
