When Marcus Freeman talked to the media earlier this week, he covered a ton of different subjects that all had to do with the Notre Dame football team. He spoke about who will fill in on the defensive line. He talked about his feelings on the transfer portal. He also talked about how his offensive line could get shuffled this season to make the unit one of the best in the country.

That would be a fun evolution under offensive line coach Joe Rudolph, considering the unit has been the center of more than a little fan ire over the years. Last year, it dealt with a ton of injuries. This year, it’s expected to be healthy, talented, and led by Charles Jagusah.

Offensive line shuffle could vault Charles Jagusah into Notre Dame’s next big star

The Notre Dame football head coach touched on the subject when he met with the media on Thursday. He was asked how he plans to shift the line around and how he thinks Jagusah can fit into the coaching staff’s larger plans.

“I think it’s what’s the best five. It’s not, make a decision off the best one. On offensive line, it’s ‘What’s the best five?’ And a decision for Charles Jagusah to play guard might not mean that’s Charles Jagusah’s best position or future position as much as it’s what we need out of those five guys. And I think Charles Jagusah could be a center, guard or tackle. He’s a freak. He is really freakin’ good.”

This is hardly the first time the Notre Dame football head coach has sung the praises of the big offensive lineman. But it’s the most effusive he’s been. The coaching staff expects massive things if he stays 100% healthy in 2025.
