The entire Notre Dame fanbase just took one big collective sigh of relief with head coach Marcus Freeman's post on X (formerly known as Twitter) Monday morning. Freeman announced that he would be staying in South Bend for another year amid NFL coaching rumors.

Of course, NFL teams would want to hire Freeman, especially seeing his success at the college level, but he informed what is assumed to be the New York Giants and Tennessee Titans that he would not be leaving the Irish.

The college coaching carousel was scary enough for Irish fans with so many big openings, but Freeman continued to ensure he wasn't going anywhere else in the college ranks. When it came to the NFL openings, those seemed like they could be a bit more enticing for Freeman, but his announcement this morning put everything to bed.

Notre Dame fans could not be happier with Freeman's return in 2026

The giving holiday may be over, but Freeman just wanted to try and make it last a little longer with this piece of news. This is certainly a gift that Notre Dame fans will cherish for the coming year.

NFL news outlets will now have to find someone else to focus on. Freeman is off the table, and it feels like he won't be on the table for any NFL jobs for a long time.

If Nick Saban and Matt Rhule taught college coaches anything, it is that college football and the NFL are two very different beasts. While some college coaches have been able to find success at the next level, it isn't easy. Freeman had to listen to what the Giants had to offer, but he also wants to win a title with the Irish, and he has yet to do that.

After losing a National Championship in 2024 and being snubbed in 2025, the college football world may not know what they have created with Marcus Freeman.

This tweet perfectly sums up how every Notre Dame fan is feeling right now.

Notre Dame has one of the top recruiting classes starting in South Bend in the coming months. Freeman also was snubbed from the College Football Playoff this season and has almost certainly heard all the trolls talking about the Irish. Freeman is a determined guy, and if anyone thinks he isn't coming into the 2026 season the most motivated he has ever been, then they are going to be very, very wrong.
