In the middle of what has been a great start for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish basketball season, Marcus Shrewsberry’s team took a bit of a setback on Tuesday. A talented young guard is going to miss a big chunk of the season and there isn’t still any indication if he’ll be able to return for this campaign or not.

The announcement of Sir Mohammed’s surgery comes just hours before the Irish are set to play their fourth game of the year and are looking to improve to 4-0. The good news here is that the team has already won one game without the freshman guard’s services.

Jack Soble took to Twitter on Tuesday evening to make the announcement that the Notre Dame Fighting Irish basketball team’s young guard underwent surgery. Soble added that the knee surgery was success but that Sir Mohammed is now out indefinitely.

Mohammed’s arrival in South Bend was reason for celebration back on signing day. So far he hasn’t been a big impact on the team, but he was expected to see more action as the season went along.

So far this year, the true freshman has appeared in two games. His most extensive action came against Stonehill when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish beat the Skyhawks 89-60. He played 17 minutes and scored 5 points while hauling down 6 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists. He didn’t score against Buffalo in 9 minutes but he did register a block, a rebound and an assist.
