The Notre Dame Fighting Irish scored yet another big recruiting win on Monday that also let them really kick off the 2028 class. Marcus Freeman and his staff are on a roll for the 2027 cycle; they’d love to be able to say that about the 2028 group too. Darien Prescott’s commitment to the Golden Domers over the Oregon Ducks and Texas A&M Aggies was a big one, and not just because he was the third 2028 commit.
- After announcing his commitment on the Pat McAfee show on ESPN, Prescott explained why he chose the Irish over everyone: “I’ve been visiting there for so long, and when I got one of my first major offers, it was from Notre Dame,” Prescott said. “They were the first school to ever believe in me, even coming off a national championship (appearance). Marcus Freeman was one of those people who believed in me. Coming in, even with coach (Al) Washington talking and leaving, that meant a lot to me because at the end of the day, Notre Dame is home."
Notre Dame Fighting Irish are kings of college football
- Just hours after Ohio State announced a jersey patch deal that was the biggest money deal in college sports, Notre Dame one-upped them with their own announcement of a deal with SoFi that will see the Irish get $20 million annually, which could be as much as $3 million per year more than Ohio State is raking in.
- The ACC pre-season media poll was released on Tuesday, and it showed that two of Notre Dame’s ACC opponents are both the best in the conference. Miami was ranked No. 1, and SMU was ranked No. 2, and that’s very good news for the Irish’s strength of schedule. Should those rankings prove to be true when the season rolls around, it should help Marcus Freeman and Co. when looking at the team’s College Football Playoff resume.

- ESPN showed its preference toward the SEC earlier this week when it released the FPI strength of schedule for the conference’s teams and ranked Arkansas as having the toughest schedule in the country. That’s despite Arkansas playing both Tulsa and North Alabama on the schedule. Their SEC slate, which includes Missouri and South Carolina, is what is supposedly fueling the Razorbacks having the best SOS in the country.

- During the first day of Big Ten Media Days, commissioner Tony Pettiti addressed his push for a 24-team College Football Playoff field. While still supporting that format, he let a new detail slip during his press conference, saying that should it happen, the Big Ten would likely do away with the conference championship game.
- Mitchell Evans scared Carolina Panthers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish fans on Tuesday morning when he stayed down on the field and was then taken off on a cart. While the team has said they think it’s just a sprained ankle and not a big deal, the cart says otherwise; this is still something that needs to be watched.
