It was a bad Saturday for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football program, but things could have been worse, all things considered. Take Florida State, who nearly upset now No. 1 Miami on Saturday but in the process lost its starting running back for the rest of the season.

  • The Seminoles announced Sunday that Ousmane Kromah injured his left ankle in Saturday's 43-35 double-overtime loss to Miami. Kromah ran for a 9-yard gain to Miami's 2-yard line but landed awkwardly on his ankle when Chase Smith tackled him. Kromah tried to hop off the field on his right leg, with his ankle bent at an angle. He finally fell to the turf, and the Florida State medical staff immediately applied an air cast before carting him off.
  • Kromah led Florida State in rushing this season with 609 yards and five touchdowns. His injury is a major blow for head coach Mike Norvell, who is trying to save his job as the team enters a 3-4 season.
  • A member of the Air Force has died from his injuries after he fell while attempting to rappel from the rafters of the Alamodome during a pregame demonstration before UTSA's football game against Navy on Saturday, the Air Force said. The man was an experienced

  • The Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team suffered a heart breaking loss on Saturday to BYU. The loss was especially heartbreaking considering that CJ Carr had his team poised for the go ahead touchdown but the game "ended" on an incomplete pass to Jaden Greathouse.
  • After the game, the Big 12 announced that the incompletion looked like it interfered with Greathouse, but there should have been one more second left on the clock. That would have given the Irish one more play to try to salvage their undefeated season.
  • The good news is that, after the Irish were robbed of another chance to come from behind, they didn't drop too far in the AP Top 25. While BYU jumped from No. 8 to No. 2, Notre Dame fell from No. 2 to No. 4. That still leaves their chances of making the College Football Playoff very good.
  • The football team wasn't the only squad that lost on Saturday. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish men's basketball team played its first exhibition game of the year and fell to Dayton, 75-65. As expected in an exhibition game, by the under-12 media timeout, Notre Dame’s starters were subbed out and never returned, giving the bench valuable minutes down the homestretch.
  • Fifth-year guard Ethan Roberts was the only Irish player with double-digit scoring, finishing with 11 points in 20 minutes. Sophomore forward Brady Koehler tallied seven points and four rebounds. Fifth-year Braeden Smith led the team with three assists.
  • The Notre Dame Fighting Irish hockey team also lost Saturday night, falling 4-0 to No. 6 Western Michigan on Saturday evening at Compton Family Ice Arena. The loss drops the Fighting Irish to 2-2-0 on the young season. They lost the first game of the two-game series, 6-1 on Friday.
