Not long after the Notre Dame Fighting Irish basketball season ended, there was some concern that Markus Burton might head onto the NBA.
He was told rather concretely that he wasn’t ready for the pros yet. But that doesn’t mean that Burton doesn’t have a ton of talent. He’s considered one of the best in the game.
That fact was again demonstrated this week when ESPN announced that the Notre Dame Fighting Irish star was among its Top 100 players in college basketball put together by Jeff Borzello and Myron Medcalf.

The analysts are certainly sold on the raw talent of Burton. He’s someone who showed off those skills a lot last year.
“Burton gave ND fans a reason to smile in a 13-20 season – Micah Shrewsberry’s first year in South Bend. The 5-foot-11 guard, averaged 17.5 points a game as a freshman, finishing with 20 points or more in 11 games. If he can become a consistent threat from the 3-point line (30%), the all-ACC third-team pick could mature into one of the expanded conference’s best players.”
That glowing review not only has Markus Burton on the Top 100 list, but has him at No. 40, just behind Tyson Degenhart from Boise State and just ahead of Grand Canyon’s Tyon Grant-Foster.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish basketball team is excited to start the 2024-25 season and see if Shrewsberry’s rebuild job can bring success quickly. Some analysts even believe the Blue and Gold could go dancing.
