While the Notre Dame Fighting Irish men’s basketball team is struggling mightily, the women’s team is dominating.
In fact, Olivia Miles and company are playing so well, they’ve shown over and over that they’re among the best teams in the country. To be more precise, they’re currently considered the second-ranked team in the country. And there’s still more room to grow, improve, and move up.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish women’s basketball team is officially number 2 in the newest Associated Press Top 25 poll, behind only the undefeated UCLA Bruins.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish near the top of the mountain
The women’s team moved up from No. 3 to No. 2 thanks to yet another dominating week in which they beat two newcomers to the ACC in convincing fashion. First they took out Stanford, 96-47. They on Sunday they beat down Cal (who was ranked number 21 when they played) 91-52.
Of course, it not just that they posted two dominant wins that have the AP thinking they’re among the best teams in the entire country. There’s also the fact that the Irish have won 16 straight games.
Sitting at 21-2 and 12-0 in the ACC, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are currently leading the conference, but that margin for error is very, very small. They’ve got the NC State Wolfpack nipping at their heels for that top spot in the conference tournament.
There’s also the fact that this squad would very much like a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament when that time comes. It would seem the goal of being the top overall seed.
