The musical chairs at the safety spot opposite Adon Shuler continue for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. One week after Luke Talich missed the game against Purdue, he's back in the starting lineup, and Joey O'Brien will move back to a reserve role.
- All of this shifting around is due to Brauntae Johnson's injury in the first half of the first game of the year. Marcus Freeman and Co. have been waiting for Johnson, one of the best safeties in the country, to return healthy. In the meantime, both Talich and O'Brien have played quite well.
- The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have a wealth of talent across the roster, but the defensive backfield has been a real strength for years. Now, Chris Ash has a true freshman who has starting experience ready to come off the bench if needed. Meanwhile, Talich, who used to be buried on the depth chart, has made the most of his opportunity and is on pace to post his best season to date.

- Jeremiyah Love is no longer with Notre Dame, and yet he's still helping the program on the recruiting front. The All-World running back is a big reason why a recent scholarship offer recipient, Dontaye Day-Thompson, is considering pulling the trigger on a commitment. The 3-star wide receiver made it clear that he is a big fan of Love when talking about what the offer from Notre Dame meant to him:
- “I've been watching it since I was little, and one of my favorite running backs is Jeremiyah Love. That's what makes it one of my favorites.”
- One of the only negative stories around the Irish this year has been the supposed split between Aneyas Williams and Marcus Freeman. However, on Tuesday, Williams put that whole controversy to bed when he took the blame for the celebration that earned Notre Dame a penalty. Now that the issue is put to bed, the Irish can just focus on winning.
- Earlier this week, North Carolina announced that Billy Edwards would remain its starting quarterback. Considering his struggles against Clemson, that might be very good news for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He hasn't even been that good in the Tar Heels' two wins. It seems unlikely that a struggling quarterback can be very effective against the kind of defense Chris Ash is rolling out there every week.
