After a terrible start, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball team worked exceptionally hard to get back into contention for the postseason. It also seemingly saved head coach Shawn Stiffler’s job. And then… the ACC tournament.

Maybe the Irish simply spent all their energy looking like a team ready for regionals. Or perhaps they just discovered the danger of the conference tournament's single-elimination format. There is a reason these tournaments were double-elimination when the conferences were smaller.

Whatever the reason, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish season is over after a 5-4 10th inning loss to No. 14 seed Boston College. Because it’s single elimination, the Blue and Gold won’t have a chance to get back into the fight. And while the team was considered one of the Last Four in, that’s no longer the case after this loss.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball gets several All-ACC entries

While the Irish entered the conference tournament as the No. 11 seed, multiple players stood out this season, and on Monday, the ACC rewarded them for their play.

Catcher Carson Tinney was named to the first-team while two starting pitchers made third-team All-ACC in Rory Fox and Jack Radel. Finally, freshman outfielder Bino Watters made the conference All-Freshman team, after hitting .317 with 9 home runs and 38 RBI.

Sunday in Lambeau

The Notre Dame football team was already slated to play the Wisconsin Badgers at Lambeau field during the 2026 season, but if that NFL feel wasn’t enough, the game also got moved. The two teams will now face off on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026. That means the Irish are now opening two seasons in a row on Sunday. They’ll play this year in Miami on August 31.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish signs pro hockey contract

Days before walking across the stage to receive his diploma from the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish forward Tyler Carpenter signed his first professional contract with the Mont-Blanc Yetis Hockey Club of the France2 league.

“I can’t wait to join the club and start this new chapter,” Carpenter said in a statement posted by the hockey team. “I can’t wait to meet everyone and get to work.”

In four seasons with the Irish, Carpenter played in 107 contests and posted 19 points. In his final season with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, he was named an alternate captain, scored 1 goal and played in all 38 games.
