Late last week, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish unveiled the new Jack and Kathy Shields Family Hall. The new facility, coupled with the existing Guglielmino Athletics Complex, “will accommodate the needs of the University’s premier athletics programs,” the school said in a recent release. “The new space will foster team building and personal growth, improve physical conditioning and technical ability, and enable the College of Science and Notre Dame Research to partner with Athletics in the study of human performance, sports science, medicine and nutrition.”

- The Athletic released what is now an annual report in which it determines the total value of an athletic program in the same way that professional sports teams tend to be valued. This year, Notre Dame was ranked third among Power 4 schools. The Golden Domers were valued at $2.1 billion. Even more impressive, the Irish were valued at $1.85 billion last year. The school that so many people think badly needs to join a conference is clearly making the most of being independent.
- Jadarian Price has started his rookie year by impressing his coaches and teammates in training camp. Analysts are high on him as well. As Lee Vowell of 12th Man Rising put it, “He is only going to keep Seattle good, too. Through a week of training camp, Price has shown he can catch the ball out of the backfield, but has made enough of Seattle's elite defense look silly to imply that when the real games begin, Price is going to be a star. He is explosive with power, a combination of a healthy Rashaad Penny and Chris Carson, possibly.”
- After Friday’s Colorado court ruling, there was some talk that the Transfer Portal would open again and players would be transferring all over the country. However, as it turns out, the judge said that anyone in the class of 2022 who hadn’t used five years of eligibility can only use that fifth year in certain circumstances. That ruling clarification has avoided an even bigger wave of chaos as fall camps are set to begin.

- The Packers' right tackle formerly known as Zach Tom revealed Sunday something that has been in the works for months: He has changed his name. The 27-year-old will now go by Zach Bako-Bewele. He said it's a nod to his Nigerian ancestry. Bako is his paternal grandmother's last name, and Bewele is his paternal grandfather's last name.
- New Orleans Saints wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk has been placed on the reserve/retired list, the team announced Sunday. Polk, 24, made the surprising decision to retire less than a week into training camp. Saints coach Kellen Moore said Polk has been excused from the last two practices for personal reasons. The Saints acquired Polk and a 2028 seventh-round pick from the New England Patriots last September in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick.
- Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish tight end Eli Raridon has impressed quite a bit. Once thought to be the third tight end on the Patriots’ depth chart, injuries and impressive play have him slotted as the TE2 and getting quite a bit of playing time.
