Since the Notre Dame Fighting Irish inked its 2026 class, Marcus Freeman and the rest of the coaches have made it clear they're pretty excited about the group. That includes Joey O'Brien, who recently demonstrated just how good he is and how good he could be once he gets to South Bend.
In his latest game, O'Brien helped lead La Salle College High School to a win in the 6A State Championship game, and his performance certainly was the most impressive.
During the game, defensively, O'Brien had three interceptions, one of which he ran back for a 95-yard touchdown. Offensively, he secured 10 catches for 99 yards and threw a touchdown pass to help seal the 34-20 win over Central Catholic. This was La Salle's first championship win since 2009.
Jeremiyah Love gets another postseason honor
Not only is the Notre Dame Fighting Irish running back a finalist for the Heisman trophy, but Love got a special award earlier this week. Love is the winner of the 2025 Disney Spirit Award, given to CFB's most inspirational figure.
While accepting the award, the star running back understood just how important it is that he got this postseason honor as he gets ready to head to the NFL. "This is a great honor. I'm very glad that people can look at my story and feel inspired. That's really what I play this game for."
