The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have had some struggles recruiting linebackers of late. That's why the news that Roman Igwebuike canceled his trip to Tennessee this weekend was so welcome. It looks like things are improving quickly, and the Irish might get one of the better linebackers in the 2027 class after all.

Earlier this week, Igwebuike received three predictions from Rivals analysts for Notre Dame. Mike Singer was the first domino, putting his prediction in on Sunday morning. National analyst Steve Wiltfong followed a day later, and Greg Smith put his prediction in a day after Wiltfong.

His official commitment date is June 25, but he took an official visit to Notre Dame last weekend. With the canceled trip to see the Vols and his recent outing to South Bend, it looks like Roman Igwebuike could pull the trigger for Marcus Freeman and Co. soon.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish take home the gold

For the first time as a USA Basketball head coach, Notre Dame Head Women’s Basketball Coach Niele Ivey is a gold medalist.

On Monday, Ivey led the United States to a 90-72 victory over Canada to win the 2026 FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup. It is the 12th consecutive tournament win for the United States and the 13th overall. The U.S. dominated throughout the AmeriCup, finishing 5-0 with an average margin of victory of 68.3 points over the first four games.

Monday’s contest also had Ivey face off against one of her future players. She managed to beat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish signee Isabella Sangha, who competed for Canada and earned a silver medal. Sangha moved to South Florida for high school, but the 6-3 forward is originally from Toronto.

  • Notre Dame Fighting Irish strength and conditioning coach Loren Landow was named the 2026 National Strength and Conditioning Association Impact Award winner, the organization announced Friday morning. Awarded since 1997, the NSCA Impact Award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions that have impacted a segment of the overall field of strength and conditioning. The award is especially interesting as there is a pocket of Irish fans who believe he's to blame for several key injuries. Clearly the organization doesn't agree.
