Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish women’s basketball star Sonia Citron might not be a household name, but that’s not her fault. While players like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese grab daily headlines, Citron is just busy keeping her head down and playing as well as she knows how. Late last week, that approach carried the former Irish guard into WNBA history.
Citron officially became the youngest guard in the league to reach 1,000 points. As of now, she boasts 1,015 points in her two seasons in the WNBA. That’s a heck of an accomplishment considering she’s just 22 years old.
The former Notre Dame Fighting Irish guard is now headed to the WNBA All-Star Game alongside Washington Mystics teammate Kiki Iriafen. “She’s an amazing basketball player,” Iriafen said about her teammate. “You can already see a huge jump from Year 1 to Year 2, and [she] had an incredible Year 1.”
Former Notre Dame quarterback looking to make a comeback
Steve Angeli’s first season away from South Bend started off quite well and then quickly turned into a nightmare when he suffered a leg injury in the Syracuse Orange’s game against the Clemson Tigers. Speaking in this summer’s ACC Media Days, he credits his time with Notre Dame as helping him gain toughness and grit that he thinks will carry him to a great 2026.
“I think I've learned a lot from my time in Notre Dame. Had a lot of great coaches, a lot of great teammates, the culture there,” Angeli said. “I've learned a lot, you know, throughout my three years there. I've taken a lot of lessons, a lot of trials and tribulations that I experienced there and kind of used them as learning moments for when I got here. I'm grateful for my time there, but I'm really focused on this season coming up, playing for Syracuse and getting ourselves in position to win the ACC.”

- Over in the NFL, former Notre Dame Fighting Irish running back Jadarian Price has looked good enough that the Seattle Seahawks have big plans for him: “We’re going to run wide zone, and he’s going to run wide zone,” Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald said about Price. “We’re going to run some gap scheme. He’s going to run some of that too and then the pass game he can come alive, too. I think that’s part of our offense in general, that we can take another step in including our halfbacks in the pass game.”
