Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish star Joe Alt was off to a fantastic start to his sophomore season with the Los Angeles Chargers. Now that the season has hit a serious bump in the road.
Alt left the Chargers' latest game early in the first half with a purported ankle injury. After the game, the team announced it believes the offensive lineman has a "high ankle sprain." However, the true extent of the injury won't be known until Alt undergoes an MRI on Monday.
Notre Dame opened the door for Bobby Petrino
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish likely knew they were putting Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman's job in jeopardy when they beat his team on Saturday, 56-13. However, Marcus Freeman might have called off the dogs a bit earlier if he thought it would save the college football world from the return of Bobby Petrino as a head coach.
Petrino was named the interim head coach after Arkansas officially fired Pittman on Sunday. It will mark Petrino's second stint as the Razorbacks' head coach. He was fired the first time after Arkansas found out he was having an affair with his secretary.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish back in the playoff picture
While not everyone thinks that the Irish should be able to get back to the playoffs in 2025, The Athletic's latest projections do have the Blue and Gold as a No. 8 seed after their second straight win.
The Irish are also No. 21 in the AP Top 25, which leaves the door open for Marcus Freeman and Co. if they win out. However, just like last year, they will need to win out, and even then, they might need some help.
