The Notre Dame football program, as well as the hockey and basketball programs took a big step on Friday that more and more schools have already made. The Fighting Irish will allow of the sale of alcohol everywhere in Notre Dame Stadium, Purcell Pavilion and Compton Family Ice Arena.
Previously, the policy was that alcohol sales were only allowed in the most expensive and restricted suites but the school announced on Friday afternoon that booze will now be sold all over the stadium, including at the concession stands.
The Notre Dame football team is now following other schools that have long fought against this kind of beer and alcohol policy like Nebraska, who just changed its own policy this year and will be serving alcohol at Memorial Stadium for the first time this fall.
Alcohol sales begin with first Notre Dame football game in 2025
The arguments from many has been that allowing beer and alcohol at games would lead to fans getting rowdier and even violent, especially suring a game they were losing. On the other hand, it’s clear that Notre Dame and other programs are looking for new revenue streams now that costs are going up.
With revenue sharing still on the horizon for this fall, the Fighting Irish will allow for any money they can get in order to offset the new expenditures.
“The sale of alcoholic beverages at Notre Dame football, hockey and basketball games will expand to include both premium and general admission seating beginning with the 2025 football season,” the school said in the statement. “Fans will have the opportunity to purchase alcoholic beverages at concession stands inside Notre Dame Stadium, Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center and Compton Family Ice Arena. This expansion will provide for a modern fan experience, consistent with other professional and collegiate stadiums and venues throughout the nation. Notre Dame is committed to promoting responsible consumption and ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all attendees.”
Just what providers will be utilized for Notre Dame football games when it comes to bear, wine and alcohol wasn’t announced yet but should come at a later date.
