Aneyas Williams might be limited this spring, but it's clear that Notre Dame coaches don't expect that to mean much. In fact, if one were to go by offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock's comments earlier this week, it seems as though he's expected to be the starter this fall.
Denbrock addressed the media after the first day of spring practice. His comments made it clear he's not worried about Williams being behind. He pointed to how the young running back handled playing behind Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price and still being a positive contributor as a big reason why.
"The thing about Aneyas that I think people forget is that, you know, every time he's been inserted into a game situation or we've called upon him to do positive things within our offense, he's delivered every single time," the Notre Dame OC said.
Notre Dame football's Mike Denbrock seemingly hands Aneyas Williams the keys for 2026
"I don't anticipate that being any different moving forward. So, to me, it's an exciting time for him because there's an opportunity in front of him that I know he's been working very hard for and he's ready to seize."
Williams averaged a whopping 9.3 yards per carry over 24 touches. He also scored 5 touchdowns despite his very limited playing time.Â
More importantly for Notre Dame coaches this year is that he did all of that without complaining about being third on the depth chart. It helped that it's hard to argue anyone should have played ahead of Price and Love.Â
Now, Denbrock and the rest of the Notre Dame coaches expect him to step up big. If he does, Aneyas Williams could be in for a massive 2026.
