The Chicago Bears look like they’re going elsewhere for their offensive line coach, which means that the Notre Dame football team's hemorrhaging staff might be just about over.
While the Bears have looked towards South Bend a couple of times this offseason, they either couldn’t land, or chose differently when everything shook out. And in the process, the Golden Domers won’t have to look for a new offensive line coach this offseason.
When the Bears went looking for their own o-line coach, there was quite a bit of talk that Joe Rudolph was one of the top candidates. However, earlier this week, the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Briggs announced the NFL squad is instead looking towards Tulane coach Dan Roushar.
Notre Dame football is keeping its offensive line coach
After a long career in the NFL, Roushar spent the last two years in college football with the Tulane Grave Wave. In 2023, Roushar was the offensive line coach for Tulane as they averaged 370.1 yards per game that season, with an impressive 155.1 rushing yards per game during that time which saw several players make the All-Conference team in the AAC.
Some Fighting Irish fans might wonder how Rudolph wasn’t able to beat out a coach from a smaller program, but Roushar also spent a decade with the New Orleans Saints. He’s simply someone who knows the NFL better than Rudolph.
Roushar also has some tangential ties to new Bears head coach Ben Johnson. The new hire worked with Lions head man Dan Campbell.
All of that leads to a hire that makes sense for the NFL squad. And the Notre Dame football team can now move on knowing that its offensive line coach will be with them in 2025. All of this happens just months before the prep for next season officially begins in April with the Blue and Gold Game.
