When offensive lineman Billy Schrauth declared for the NFL Draft, it was a surprise for Notre Dame football fans. Considering what draft analysts think about the big offensive lineman, it may not have been such a surprise.
Daniel Jeremiah is one of the analysts who believes that the Fighting Irish lineman is better than people realized. In particular, the analyst posted on Twitter that he'd just finished watching some game tape of Schrauth against USC. He came away very impressed.
"Just finished ND OG Billy Schrauth & the USC tape was excellent," Jeremiah said of the former Notre Dame captain. "Don't have any measurables & haven't heard any buzz but he has starter ability."
Why Notre Dame’s Billy Schrauth is viewed as an NFL starter by Daniel Jeremiah
That's certainly high praise for a name that hasn't really surfaced in any NFL Mock Drafts. That could make Schrauth one of the steals of the draft, should he get drafted. He could be an even bigger steal if he ends up being an UDFA.
Of course, to convince any NFL teams to take a bet on him, he'll need to show that he's completely healed from the injury that shortened his final season in South Bend. He missed several games for Notre Dame, and in fact, the game against USC was his final outing of 2025.
Jeremiah pinpointed something that Notre Dame analysts knew. Schrauth was playing at an elite level before he hurt his knee against the Trojans. He was elite when he was healthy this year. He was good enough that his going pro this year could be a big win for him, and whatever NFL team gives him the chance.
