The Georgia Bulldogs know that they have a real task ahead of them when they play the Notre Dame football team. Dawgs head coach Kirby Smart addressed the media on Monday and talked about one defender that he’s most concerned about.

Smart said that freshman DE Bryce Young showed up a lot on film in preparing for the Sugar Bowl. "To do what he’s done this early in his career just shows you how talented he’s going to be,” Smart added.

The Notre Dame football team’s defensive end is likely going to have a bigger role in the Sugar Bowl because of injuries on the defensive front. While his numbers aren’t eye-popping, they’re plenty impressive for a true freshman playing behind a veteran defensive unit. But he’s played well. And he’s played well recently.

Notre Dame football’s Bryce Young garners attention from Kirby Smart

It’s not just on defense that Young has made an impression on Smart. But he’s stood out at a couple of different positions.

“I wasn’t aware of him until we watched a little bit of tape on both Indiana and Notre Dame before we knew who we were going to play,” Smart told the media. “And I was like, Who is this guy, 30? He is long. He is athletic. He is twitchy.”

“And then while watching the game, he showed up more. It was like, he made some flash plays. He’s rusher, he’s edge. And then when I dug deeper into special teams, I’m like, this guy is phenomenal on special teams, his reach, his athleticism.”

“I mean, I don’t know about what he lists, but he looks bigger than he lists on paper. And he’s just going to be a phenomenal talent. To do what he’s done this early in his career just shows you how talented he’s going to be.”

Young has 12 tackles and 1.5 sack. He had a sack for the Notre Dame football team against Indiana. It appears he’s got opposing coach’s attention. Hopefully he makes a big impression on Wednesday.
