The Notre Dame football team is rightfully working hard to find ways to beat the Indiana Hoosiers over the next few weeks. But it would be wrong if fans didn’t start looking past a team that lost its only game against a ranked team. Didn’t only lose that game, but was blown out and dominated.
The Monday news will only make it harder to look ahead to the Georgia Bulldogs. It sounds like the tournament's SEC champion and No. 2 seed will be without its starting quarterback for at least its first game in the playoffs.
According to several sources, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck suffered a severe injury to his right UCL. While he’s said to be getting second opinions, if the reports are true, it would mean that the Notre Dame football team would be facing off against backup quarterback Gunnar Stockton.
Notre Dame football might have easier path through the Georgia Bulldogs
Beck was injured at the very end of the first half in the SEC Championship Game as he was sacked and had his arm pulled down and backwards. Stockton played the rest of the second half and while he did lead the Bulldogs to the come-from-behind win, it’s still preferable to face the Dawgs’ backup quarterback over the veteran starter.
All of this is jumping the gun. The Notre Dame football team has no easy task against the Hoosiers. Curt Cignetti’s crew has shown itself to be scrappy, and he has some weapons at his disposal. But should the Irish get past IU, the Sugar Bowl might have a different feel.
