When the Notre Dame football team hired Chris Ash as the defensive coordinator to replace Al Golden, I was more than a little underwhelmed by the hire. Ash is a guy who is well respected enough, but his defenses have never been the kind of lockdown, lights-out attack that Irish fans have grown accustomed to over the last few years.

Then came the spring and the fall and Ash said all the right things. He talked about not changing much from what Golden had installed. He talked about how much he liked what he saw from his defense. It's safe to say he didn't see his defense doing the things they've done on Sunday night.

Notre Dame football fans are certainly not enjoying what they're seeing from Ash's defense in the Irish's first game of the year. After allowing Miami to score at the end of the half and then drive right down the field in their first drive of the second half, Miami is up 21-7. But more than the score, the success the Hurricanes are having both on the ground and through the air has fans furious at the new defensive coordinator.

Sometimes you don't need many words to express how you feel about the new DC.

The people who were not on board with Ash's hiring to start with, are not being won over on Sunday night.

Some Notre Dame fans feel like he's proving them right to have a problem with him.

Not sure he was the 10th best candidate, but also not sure he was the best.

Several Notre Dame football fans are missing Al Golden.

Notre Dame is currently down 21-14. If Chris Ash can fix his defense and come up with some big stops in the fourth quarter. All will be forgiven.
