Once CJ Carr leads Notre Dame to glory this season, the consensus is that he’ll head to the NFL. Mock drafts have already mapped out where Carr might go, but the latest one brings such bad news that the star signal-caller might decide to return for another year of college ball instead.
ESPN’s Jordan Reid put together his latest NFL mock draft, laying out every first-round pick. One of the most noteworthy parts of his predictions was quarterbacks going in the first three picks in the 2027 NFL Draft. Reid believes the Cleveland Browns will trade up to the No. 1 pick, assuming they don’t post the worst record of any team already.
The analyst believes that should the Browns get the No. 1 overall pick, they’ll select Oregon’s Dante Moore. At No. 2 overall, the Arizona Cardinals will select Texas’ Arch Manning. And finally, at No. 3, the New York Jets will take Notre Dame’s CJ Carr.
Should Carr’s family pull an Eli Manning or John Elway and say that if the Jets try to make him their quarterback, he will never sign? The kneejerk reaction would be that Carr’s future with the Jets will follow the path of several other first-round picks who either flamed out or only found success after leaving East Rutherford.

However, Reid seems to think things could turn out differently this time, since New York has serious talent around him, even if that talent hasn’t led to wins yet and won’t this season if they have the No. 3 overall pick.
“The Jets' drafts in the past five years have seen them bring in bookend offensive tackles (Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou), a true WR1 (Garrett Wilson), a franchise RB (Breece Hall) and two talented tight ends (Mason Taylor and Kenyon Sadiq). Seems like an ideal base for a young quarterback to join,” Reid wrote.
There could be another big change for the Jets that could bode ill, or bode well for CJ Carr if he ends up in New York. If they once again have a bad enough season to get the third pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, it will likely be someone other than Aaron Glenn calling the shots as head coach, considering how rough his short run there has been so far. The Notre Dame star could be called upon to usher in a new era. Whether he’d be up for a job that big will be interesting to watch.
