While things are going very well for the Notre Dame football team of late, there have been some negative hits here and there. Not the least of which is that the Irish are still seeing a player here and there announcing they intend to transfer.

Earlier this season, the big hit was Jaden Mickey, who was having a solid season for the Irish before deciding to redshirt. That redshirt goes along with an announcement that he’s leaving when the portal opens this winter.

On Tuesday, defensive lineman Aiden Gobaira announced he is joining Mickey on his way out the door. “I want to thank the coaching staff for supporting me and helping throughout this time. The last three years [with the Notre Dame football team] have been extremely impactful and beneficial to me and I cannot wait to continue my football journey. I’m excited and blessed to announce I will be entering the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining after I graduate in May.”

Gobaira played in just one game with one snap in his college career against Boston College in 2022. He suffered from a torn ACL injury during fall camp in 2023 that led to him missing all of spring practice this year and eventually being placed on medical scholarship alongside defensive lineman Tyson Ford.

That move put an end to their Notre Dame football careers but allowed them to be Notre Dame students with the option to resume their careers at a different program.
