Notre Dame football recruiting has been making waves all over the college football world in April. And it’s not just recruiting analysts and fans who are noticing. Other top prospects are taking note as well.

One commitment that has gotten some real attention is the latest pledge to the Irish by 4-star defensive back Ayden Pouncey. The highly sought after safety pulled the trigger this past weekend and now one of the best 2027 recruits is showing how impressed he is.

Notre Dame football’s recruiting momentum could pay off with another elite 2027 star

The Notre Dame football team could, it would seem, eventually make some serious inroads with 2027 prospect Ellis McGaskin, specifically because they landed Pouncey. At least that’s the assumption one can make thanks to a recent post by McGaskin himself showing he certainly took notice of the Golden Domer’s latest commitment.

McGaskin posted on X not long after Pouncey announced his commitment with a quote tweet. He used the eye emojis and asked whether the Irish were “the move.” And it’s a safe bet that any Notre Dame fan who saw that tweet immediately answered, “yes.”

McGaskin is a linebacker out of Williamson (Mobile, Alabama) who is rated as the No. 5 player in the state, No. 9 linebacker in the class, and the No. 135 player in the 2027 recruiting cycle according to On3’s Industry Rankings

At the moment, the Auburn Tigers appear to be the team to beat. But the prospect has clearly noticed that Notre Dame is making some serious inroads with some of the best players in the country.

It’s not hard to understand why the Fighting Irish would love to get their foot in the door with the star defender. McGaskin is a force at the linebacker position. In his freshman season he tallied 142 tackles and 21 Tfl while he notched 130 tackles and 13 tackles for lose in the 2024 season according to MaxPreps.

The next step, as always will be getting the Alabama prospect to come see what Notre Dame football has to offer and get him to fall in love with South Bend.
