Marcus Freeman's latest Notre Dame recruiting push is shaking up a Penn State lock

Notre Dame is firmly in the mix for a top offensive tackle who many believed was already Penn State-bound.

The Notre Dame football team has been on quite the hot streak on the recruiting front and Marcus Freeman and staff are showing no signs of letting up. One of the biggest signs that the good vibes are rolling right along is some very good news the Fighting Irish got on Saturday from Grayson McKeogh.

McKeogh, a 4-star offensive tackle prospect out of La Salle College (Glenside, PA) has long been thought to be a near lock for Penn State. However, it looks like Freeman and company are going to get a real shot at luring him to South Bend for the long term.

Freeman and his staff will get a chance to show McKeogh what they have to offer since the Keystone State OT announced his final three teams and locked in his visit schedule. The Notre Dame football team will get one of those visits as they will do battle with Penn State and Texas down the stretch.

So what convinced the big offensive line target to keep the Fighting Irish in the mix? It should come as no surprise that the ND coaching staff simply forged a good relationship with the young prospect.

“The biggest thing is it was really personal,” McKeogh told Blue & Gold. “All the meetings were just me and my family. … I’ve gotten similar (treatment from other schools), but to the extent of (Notre Dame), no.”

Notre Dame football relationship with Grayson McKeogh is foot in the door

There’s been a wide variety of draws that the Irish have been able to lean on in order to get some love from recruits this year especially. One of the big draws has been academics. But that the coaches have been able to really strike up relationships with the players they’ve talked to and worked with has been key in this class.

Now it’s all about closing the deal as McGeogh will be at Penn State June 6, the taking in the Notre Dame football program on June 13 and finally Texas June 20. Once he’s finished up those visits, he’ll likely pull the trigger at some point in July. While Penn State is still the front runner, Marcus Freeman’s team is making it a race.
