When Greg Patrick committed to the Notre Dame football team, it shook the college football world. It was one of those things that showed Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish meant business with the 2026 class. It was something that was such a big deal that even a Michigan beat writer melted down and talked a bit of smack about Patrick and his family.

Despite Patrick’s commitment being a big one, the recruiting calendar is interesting in that Patrick hadn’t taken his official visit to South Bend. That situation was finally rectified earlier this month. Unsurprisingly, Patrick very much liked what he saw when he did finally take that official visit.

4-star OT Greg Patrick: official visit confirms Notre Dame is 'home' for 2026

“At this point now when you're committed and you're going there, it's more of a mindset of what I can do to prepare to get ready to get to campus,” Patrick told Irish Sports Daily. “So it's a little bit different and you kind of just are a little more comfortable since you're going to be there every day in the next year.”

The Notre Dame commit talked about what he really liked about this official. Especially since he had been there as an unofficial commitment.

“It was just really good being able to see all my future teammates, seeing how great everybody is, how nice of people everybody is, and it was just fun getting back to campus. There wasn't a ton of new stuff for me since I've been there so much, but it was just good hanging out with everybody.”

The best news of all, other than Gregory Patrick liking what he saw, is that he confirmed he was still very much committed to the Notre Dame football team. That’s very good news as Marcus Freeman continues locking up pledges.
