Jadarian Price has never lost in his NFL career. Neither has Jeremiyah Love. On Sunday, one of the two former Notre Dame running backs will taste defeat for the first time in their pro careers, but that doesn’t dampen the excitement of the pair meeting for the first time since leaving South Bend.
Earlier in the week, Price said he’s looking forward to squaring off against his old teammate. He also pointed out that competing with Love is nothing new, but this kind of competition is very different from what they had when they shared backfield duties with the Fighting Irish.
"I competed. We competed together," Price said about his time with Notre Dame and playing with Jeremiyah Love. "We said, 'OK, going into this game, who's going to have more touchdowns?' And sometimes we would try to match each other's touchdowns. It just worked out that way, but it was never like a 'I hope you don't do as good' or something like that. It was never that way because if he didn't do well, and all of a sudden, I took the starting job, then what good did that make me? I wanted to prove to myself that I'm just as good or better."
Price also said that he and Love have talked about a way to commemorate the event. He said they’ll likely do some jersey swap. He added they’ll almost certainly get it on film because he knows plenty of Notre Dame fans would love to see the pair meet up again as friends after the game.
Jadarian Price and Jeremiyah Love take Notre Dame football rivalry into NFL Week 2
Irish fans would also love to see the two rookie running backs get some more action in Week 2 after their respective teams used them sparingly in Week 1. Price’s Seattle Seahawks beat the New England Patriots in their Super Bowl rematch last Wednesday night, 13-10.
Price was effective, carrying the ball 10 times for 52 yards and catching 2 passes for 6 yards, but Seahawks fans felt he deserved more touches, especially since the back he shared time with, George Holani, struggled to just 29 yards on 8 carries.
Love’s Arizona Cardinals routed the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, 26-14. While the former Notre Dame running back scored his first NFL touchdown, he tallied only 11 carries for 41 yards and 2 receptions for 9 yards. Veteran back Tyler Allgeier led the Cards in rushing with 17 carries for 61 yards. Like Price, Love was the more effective of the backs who shared time on his team, but he got fewer snaps.
With both Notre Dame rookies showing they’re not struggling to adjust to the NFL, there’s a distinct possibility that Jadarian Price and Jeremiyah Love could forge a good old-fashioned showdown on Sunday afternoon.
