Over the past few years, Jaden Greathouse has hoped each season would be his breakout. Though injuries have delayed that moment, the Notre Dame football veteran remains optimistic. He now believes that 2026 will finally be the year he demonstrates his abilities to the college football world.
In the fall of 2025, a severe hamstring injury nearly wiped out Greathouse's season, leaving him with just 4 receptions for 73 yards for the entire campaign. This setback followed his standout showing in the 2024 College Football Playoff games, where he established himself as one of the top pass catchers in the game.
“It was probably the worst hamstring injury that I’ve had,” Greathouse recently told Irish Sports Daily after a recent Notre Dame practice. “It was an adjustment for sure, learning to not be at the center of the offense, having to take a step back and do things for my teammates.”
Jaden Greathouse believes 2026 can finally be his breakout year for Notre Dame football
“I definitely didn’t feel 100 percent until a couple weeks after USC,” Greathouse added. “Pretty late into it. The whole hamstring product was just chaotic. The playoffs were coming up pretty shortly after that, and we were excited about everything that was coming up with the Playoffs. Obviously, it didn’t go our way.”
Greathouse added that finally getting healthy in November, only to watch the Irish get snubbed for the CFP, was even worse. It made the frustrations greater.
Despite the frustration, he believes he’s poised to finally show off what he can do this fall. “Definitely dying to get out there and let it all loose. Just be back to like nothing ever happened. I haven’t played ball for the longest period of my lifetime. I’m trying to navigate that, but be cautious and make sure I’m taking care of my body in the best way that I can.”
With a very deep wide receiver corps, Notre Dame might not need Jaden Greathouse back. However, if he can stay healthy and show off the spark he had in 2024 again, the Fighting Irish offense will only be better for it.
