Former Notre Dame quarterback Kenny Minchey found his new home just days after entering the Transfer Portal. After barely losing the starting quarterback job to CJ Carr during fall camp, he'll have a chance to take over the QB1 position with the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Minchey struck with the Fighting Irish despite riding the pine for three seasons, but with Carr winning the job as a redshirt freshman, he clearly felt as though it was time to look for a starting job somewhere else. While he's still got two years of eligibility left, the fact that he'll be a junior while Carr will be a sophomore was a big deal.
Kenny Minchey moves from Notre Dame to Nebraska in Transfer Portal
Now that the former Notre Dame quarterback has landed at Nebraska, he'll compete with another sophomore for the starting job in 2026. TJ Lateef started the Huskers' final three games after playing in two games earlier in the season, officially burning his redshirt.
In Lateef's first career start, he performed near perfectly. Against UCLA he completed 13 of 15 passes for 205 yards, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions. He also ran 5 times for 31 yards.
However, against stiffer competition, the true freshman struggled and didn't manage to complete 60% of his passes against Penn State, Iowa or Utah.
Those struggles seemingly convinced the Nebraska coaching staff they needed to go get someone from the transfer portal and Kenny Minchey surfaced quickly as the Huskers top target after nearly beating out CJ Carr for the Irish's starting spot in August.
