Notre Dame football may have found a young breakout receiver this spring

As the spring practice session rolls on for the Notre Dame football team, there’s been a lot of talk about the wide receiver position. With guys like Beaux Collins and Kris Mitchell moving on, and a new quarterback throwing passes next fall, just who can stop up from the WR room is a rather large question mark.

Enter Logan Saldate. The young pass catcher has been catching coaches eyeballs this spring just as often as he’s been catching footballs from Steve Angeli, Kenny Minchey and CJ Carr.

Notre Dame football receiver coach Mike Brown has seen Saldate develop and he’s starting to become a playmaker by embracing the lessons the veterans are handing down. “Logan was on scout team for a little bit at the beginning and then moved with us,” Brown explained to collected media earlier this week. “He's been here in the offense a little more and he's just soaking in everything from the older guys.”

“He's popping up. He's making plays. Caught a touchdown the other day in practice. Had a nice one at the beginning today in practice. He's continuing to stack days and get better and better.”

Saldate played in just one game in 2024 and redshirted, so he’s still technically a freshman. That was hardly surprising since he wasn’t with the Irish last spring. He didn’t get to campus until August.

It appears that while 2024 was a growing year, Saldate is showing Notre Dame coaches that he is growing and learning. As the Irish staff looks for guys who can step up, it appears the young athlete is doing that in a big way.

As a group, Mike Denbrock made it clear he wanted to see fewer drops this spring from his receivers, and there has been an emphasis on cleaning up the mistakes from last fall. Because it’s mostly a young group, they are not mistake-free. However, it’s clear that there is some growth in the unit.

Logan Saldate is the latest youngster who appears to be pushing for the Notre Dame football team in 2025. That’s good news for the team as a whole. The more options, the better. Especially with a new quarterback under center.
