One massive pass-catching addition has sent waves of excitement through Notre Dame football. The new wideout, fresh from the transfer portal, promises game-breaking talent that can transform every snap.
Blessed with raw athleticism and a relentless work ethic, Malachi Fields brings immediate credibility to the aerial attack for the 2025 season. Fans can hardly wait to see how this crucial upgrade fuels an offense hungry for championship glory.
Notre Dame football’s biggest transfer portal pickup
ESPN recently laid out what it believes are the biggest pickups through the transfer portal and according to On3, the Notre Dame football’s biggest addition was said to be new wide receiver Malachi Fields.
“The 6-foot-4, 220-pound grad transfer was a team captain and All-ACC performer at Virginia and has put up the third-most receiving yards (1,619) in the conference over the past two seasons. He’ll be a go-to target for whoever wins the starting QB job for the Irish.”
Malachi Fields should help whoever is QB1 in 2025
Fields is projected to play boundary receiver for Irish offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock this season, his last remaining year of eligibility. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound pass catcher has 129 receptions for 1,849 yards and 11 touchdowns during his collegiate career.
He will also be tasked with putting together a more impactful season than either Beaux Collins or Kris Mitchell did last year. Both were expected to have more of an impact, but Riley Leonard’s running ability undercut the passing attack.
Malachi Fields quick stat check
- 2024 Catches: 55
- 2024 Receiving Yards: 808
- 2024 Receiving TDs: 5
- Best Game: Career high 11 catches for 148 yards in 31-30 win over Wake Forest.
One thing that could hamper his 2025 campaign is that Fields won’t be able to join the Notre Dame football team fully until June. That means he won’t be able to take part in spring practice and work out with whoever will win the starting quarterback job. Still, his veteran presence should aid Steve Angeli, CJ Carr, or Kenny Minchey.
