When a "beat-up" Miami team faces off against Notre Dame in November, they'll be without two key role players and could be missing a third. It turns out that the Hurricanes' first game against a team with a pulse left the ACC squad with several injured players.
Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal said during his Monday morning radio hit on WQAM’s The Joe Rose Show that running back CharMar “Marty” Brown and wide receiver Josh Moore are both out for the season, while linebacker Ezekiel Marcelin will be out “for a few weeks.”
“We got beat up pretty good,” Cristobal said.
Brown went down following a 32-yard run midway through the second quarter with a right knee injury. Brown was helped off the field but could not put any weight on his leg. He was eventually taken off the field on a cart, and it's now clear the injury is serious enough that he'll miss the rest of this campaign.

Brown, who was the chief backup to starting running back Mark Fletcher, ran for 474 yards and 7 touchdowns last season. One of his best games of the 2025 season came against Notre Dame when he ran for 69 yards on 15 carries (4.6 YPC) and a touchdown. That score put Miami up 21-7 and was eventually the final TD scored by Miami in that pivotal win.
Brown had 97 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries this season at the time of the injury on Friday.
Moore, who Cristobal said sustained an upper-body injury, had seven catches for 107 yards and 2 touchdowns over three games, working his way into the top of UM’s receiver rotation alongside Malachi Toney, Cooper Barkate, and Daylyn Upshaw. He had 2 catches for 8 yards against Notre Dame last year.
Marcelin is already the second linebacker to go down with an injury for Miami. Earlier this season, junior OJ Frederique suffered an injury in the game against Stanford and hasn't returned to the lineup yet.
Miami now knows that Moore and Brown won't be available against Notre Dame. There's a big question as to whether Frederique and Marcelin will be back for the November 7 showdown. Marcelin had worked his way into the linebacker rotation early in his sophomore year and was tied for third on the team with nine tackles through three games.
Of course, Notre Dame has its own injuries that may impact the game against Miami. Safety Brauntae Johnson and defensive lineman Jason Onye have both missed a couple of weeks, and it's unclear when they will return. This past weekend, another safety, Luke Talich, appeared to be banged up as he left the game against Michigan State early. So far, there's been no announcement about whether he's hurt and, if so, how much time he might miss.
