Matt Sieg might be a commitment to the Penn State Nittany Lions, but the Notre Dame football team believes he just might be flippable. That’s why Marcus Freeman and company decided to offer the 4-star safety this week.
The McDonald, Pennsylvania, native is the No. 5-ranked player in the Keystone State and is the No. 17-ranked safety in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He was also an addition to a class that was 5th in the country before he gave his pledge. He gave that pledge in November of 2024, right before the Nittany Lions took on the Ohio State Buckeyes.
It’s not clear if he is starting to feel like Penn State isn’t the place for Sieg or if the Notre Dame football team simply wanted to see if it could use new running back coach Ja’Juan Seider to try and make some inroads for one of the best recruits in the 2026 class.
Notre Dame football looking to flip Penn State safety commit Matt Sieg
The most interesting part of the offer from the Irish this week is that he’s the second Penn State commit that Notre Dame has made clear they’re coming after in the last few weeks.
Marcus Freeman and company are very interest in running back Messiah Mickens who has made no secret of the close relationship he had with Seider when the RB coach was with the Nittany Lions. Now it looks like they’re making inroads with another commit who could be close to flipping long before signing day.
