The Notre Dame football team has officially started fall camp, and that means it's beginning to answer the biggest question facing the squad. Who will be the starting quarterback when the Fighting Irish face off against the Miami Hurricanes?

Once Steve Angeli left the program after spring practice, the quarterback race came down to two people. Kenny Minchey and CJ Carr. And since the competition boiled down to two players who have very few snaps at the major college level, analysts have made it very clear who they think will eventually win the job.

Greg McElroy’s forecast has CJ Carr leading Notre Dame football’s QB competition

Count Greg McElroy among those analysts who have offered up their opinion on who will be under center for the Notre Dame football team. "The eventual starter is going to have a ton of talent. I think it’ll be CJ Carr. I’ve thought that from the beginning," McElroy told On3 during a recent interview.

The ESPN analyst is saying the quiet part out loud. There are almost no talking heads out there who think Minchey will win the job. That's actually surprising considering that Minchey also has quite a bit of talent. He's also someone who offers more of the kind of stuff that Jayden Daniels did at LSU and what Riley Leonard did last year.

Offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock's last few offenses have featured a quarterback with mobility. Carr has a strong, accurate arm, but he's not going to run the ball much at all. He's not a statue in the pocket but he won't be running for 700 yards either.

Still, the easy consensus for the Notre Dame football is for CJ Carr to win the starting quarterback job. We'll see whether Greg McElroy and others are correct about the race in just a few weeks.
