With Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price gone, there are plenty of questions surrounding the Notre Dame offense. However, as Locked On Irish podcast host Tyler Wojciak points out, there’s a wide receiver who is the biggest question on Mike Denbrock’s offense entering the summer. Ohio State transfer Quincy Porter has all the talent to be a major impact player, but there are still plenty of questions about whether he can put it all together and have a really successful 2026 season.
“The most fascinating player to me heading into summer workouts is wide receiver Quincy Porter,” Wojciak said on a recent episode. “He is the ultimate mystery. He's literally a wild card in every sense of the word … I just truly have no idea what to expect from Quincy Porter this season, and I'm not sure how you could really have any conviction either way because we just haven't seen him, not just in a Notre Dame uniform. He's barely played college football.”
Porter is such a mystery because he had knee surgery the day he entered his name in the transfer portal. That means he hasn’t been able to participate in many Notre Dame activities. He didn’t really take part in spring practice, and that puts him behind the eight ball. On the other hand, he was the No. 23 player in the 2025 recruiting class. He’s got plenty of talent. He just hasn’t shown it off.
In 2025, Porter hauled down just 4 catches for 59 yards.
Quincy Porter is Notre Dame football’s biggest offensive wild card
“Jeremiah Smith did single out Quincy Porter when he was asked who was going to be the next great wide receiver at Ohio State, which I think is worth something,” the podcast host continued. “That's pretty high praise from quite literally the best wide receiver in all of college football. But the circumstances around Quincy Porter's injury have given me pause since the moment Notre Dame landed him.”
Wojciak went on to say that the biggest issue is that while Porter didn’t have ACL surgery, there is rarely “minor” knee surgeries. It’s hard to know if Quincy Porter will be ready for the start of fall camp. And even if he is ready, it's an open question whether he’ll be 100%.
Meanwhile, the Notre Dame football team’s offense has been bonding, working together, and getting ready for a championship season. Wojciak believes Porter could be a big contributor if he locks in.
“I don't think there is a player on this entire roster who has a bigger gap between his ceiling and his floor in 2026 than Quincy Porter. The best-case scenario is that he goes out there and catches, like, 50 passes for 700 yards and 7 touchdowns. Like he could go out there and be a true wide receiver one on this team.”
Notre Dame certainly hopes he’ll be able to find a way to be as good as his ceiling indicates. If he can, the biggest mystery on the team could turn into an enigma for opponents.
