Havon Finney is about to become one of the more sought after defensive back recruits in the 2026 class. That’s because up until a few days ago, the Notre Dame football program and every other coaching staff in the sport thought he was one of the most sought after defensive backs in the 2027 class.

Now that Finney is coming to college a year earlier, coaching staffs that thought they had some time to get a foot in the door and win over the Sierrra Canyon star are rethinking their plans. That includes Marcus Freeman and company who just offered the talented defender this weekend.

The Notre Dame football team will have a heck of a fight on their hands for Havon Finney, but it looks like they will be in the fight at the very least. The next step, especially with the timetable speeding up to signing day in December, is getting Finney to come to South Bend on an official visit.

Notre Dame football becomes player in the Havon Finney sweepstakes

Finney, who is a 4-star prospect according to 247Sports, has more than 20 offers and almost all of them are from the biggest programs in college football. It’s not hard to see why, considering he’s a lock down corner despite his young age.

In the 2024 season, he tallied 37 tackles, 16 passes defended and 4 interceptions. That came after a freshman season where he had 27 tackles and one pass picked off, according to Max Preps.

He’s also a standout track athlete, running a 10.81 100 and a 22.51 200 as a freshman. Also ran a wind-aided 22.28 200, per MileSplit.

Among the programs that the Notre Dame football team is facing off against are LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon and Texas among many, many others. Now the Irish will try and get the California cornerback on campus later this summer.
