The fight between the Notre Dame football team and Penn State over running back prospect Kemon Spell has really just begun. However, the 5-star rusher has suffered some serious setbacks in his junior season. The latest is another injury that kept him from even taking a visit to the Nittany Lions this weekend.

Spell started the season by running all over his opponents. However, an ankle injury has sidelined the "Ferrari," as Spell's coach likes to call him. There was some hope that he would return to action on Friday night. Spell himself went on social media to announce he was back. Unfortunately, he suffered a setback in his McKeesport game. He aggravated the injury on McKeesport's first offensive series of the game. Spell was unable to get back onto the field in McKeesport's loss, and it could be a few weeks before he is healthy enough to reassume his position in the backfield.

The Notre Dame football target is staying upbeat. On social media, after reports surfaced that Spell could be out for a few weeks, he made it clear that he thinks 2025 can still be a good season, writing, "Will be back in a better shape and form when I come back."

However, it's bad enough that Spell is on crutches and can't put any weight on the ankle at the moment.

The good news for the Notre Dame football team is that his missed visit to Penn State gives them another opening. It's clear that neither school will back off despite Kemon Spell's injury. This fight's going down to the wire, even if the running back has to miss most of the 2025 season in a worst case scenario.
