Over the last few weeks, since Ja’Juan Seider joined the Notre Dame football program, the talk has been about the Irish trying to pull 4-star running back Messiah Mickens away from Penn State. However, on Pot of Gold Day in South Bend, Marcus Freeman and company made it clear they want another talented running back Nittany Lions’ commit as well.
Kemon Spell, the No. 1 running back in the 2027 class was given an official offer. The hunt is now on and one has to think that the Irish would love to pull not just one, but two of the best running backs in their respective classes away from Penn State along with their position coach.
When talking to BlueandGold.com, Spell made it clear that the Notre Dame football offer came, it was something he was very, very happy about. “It’s a big-time offer for me ... My connection with Coach Seider is amazing.”

Notre Dame football takes aim at another Penn State RB commit
The excitement that Spell issued about the chance to play in South Bend comes just days after Freeman and Seider locked down an official visit later this year with Messiah Mickens.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Spell finished his 2024 season with 142 carries for 1,617 yards rushing and 24 touchdowns. McKeesport finished its season with an 8-5 record. They lost to eventual WPIAL 4A champion Thomas Jefferson, 28-7.
During his freshman season, Spell totaled 579 yards on just 42 carries, scoring nine touchdowns. He also had eight receptions for 124 yards and two more scores, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
According to On3’s industry rankings, Kemon Spell was not only the top-ranked running back in the class and the state, but he’s also the No. 14 recruit in the entire 2027 class. Mickens would be a big get for the Notre Dame football team. It’s possible that Kemon Spell would be an even bigger one.
