Notre Dame has worked hard this winter to turn their special teams weakness into a strength with Micah Drescher being the latest move in that strategy.
Drescher, a former Michigan kicker signee, announced he'd flipped to the Fighting Irish on Tuesday night. He's officially now the second new kicker coming to South Bend to compete for the starting job in the spring. He'll join Purdue transfer Spencer Porath in the competition.
Drescher is Rivals' No. 9 kicker in 2026 class. Still, Chris Sailer Kicking, which trains specialists around the country, has him at No. 1. The Hinsdale (IL.) committed to the Wolverines in June and signed in December, but he asked for and was granted his release when the Wolverines fired Sherrone Moore. Michigan's loss is now officially Notre Dame's gain as long as they can keep him until the February signing day.

Micah Drescher joins Spencer Porath in revamped Notre Dame kicking battle
Earlier this winter, Sailer detailed why Drescher is so high in the famed kicking school's ratings to The Wolverine.
"He's a great student," Sailer said. "He’s humble but confident, and it couldn’t have happened to a better kid, a better young man, and, really, a great family as well. So it’s been awesome to be part of his journey and to see a young athlete who has earned it reap those rewards. I think this is just the start for him. I think he’s got the ability and talent to really continue to take it to the next level as well, so we’re excited for his future."
Drescher has a big leg, as his range is said to be over 55 yards. That alone could allow the new kicker to make an impact with Notre Dame right away, even if he splits time with the veteran Porath.
