Have things gone exactly as the Notre Dame football team hoped when it comes to recruiting so far this year? Absolutely not. Does it appear as though things are about to heat up? Absolutely yes.

That’s if a recent prediction by one of the most well known Fighting Irish recruiting experts comes true. Mike Singer has entered a prediction that the Blue and Gold are going to land one of the absolute cream of the crop prospects in the 2026 class on the defensive side.

Mike Singer of On3 entered a prediction for the Notre Dame football team to land 5-star defensive lineman Rodney Dunham. The prediction comes just after Dunham visited South Bend and he certainly made it clear that he liked what he saw.

Notre Dame football on verge of massive recruiting win in form of Rodney Dunham

Dunham, out of Myers Park, North Carolina is considered the No. 19 player in the entire class according to the On3 industry rankings. He’s also considered the No. 3 edge in the class and of course is being pursued by all the best teams in the country.

There was a time when it felt like the Irish didn’t have much of a shot with Dunham, especially since it took so long to get him to take an unofficial visit to South Bend. However, now that he’s seen what the program has to offer, he’s made it clear he very much liked what he saw.

In talking to Steve Wiltfong, Dunham said: “It doesn't get better than Notre Dame.”

That certainly sounds like a player that has the Fighting Irish at the top of his list.

Because Rodney Dunham is among the best of the best, it’s unlikely that he’ll pull the commit trigger anytime soon. He’s expected to take several more trips including official visits  for Georgia April 12, South Carolina May 30, Duke June 6, Notre Dame June 13 and Tennessee June 20.

However, it’s possible things could change as the Notre Dame football turns up the heat.
