Former Notre Dame tight end sees Panthers breakout coming for both him and Bryce Young

Former Notre Dame tight end Tommy Tremble has endured some very lean years over his six seasons with the Carolina Panthers. But that’s why he knows what a turnaround looks like, and it's why he thinks his team has a real stud in the form of quarterback Bryce Young.

“Bryce is playing on a different level,” Tremble told the Charlotte Observer in a recent interview. “I’m excited to see him. He’s gonna ball out. And it’s gonna get him paid.” Tremble happens to be in his own contract year, and he knows that if Young has a great 2026, the tight end will likely have a great campaign all on his own.

“I’m just trying to be the best at my job that I can,” he said. “That’s how you stay in the league — keep doing stuff that no one else can do,” the former Notre Dame star added.

He’s managed to indeed stay in the league for six seasons. Even if he hasn’t put up the kind of numbers that have gotten him a ton of attention. It’s also hard to get a ton of attention, given the Panthers will have another TE-by-committee approach.

Tommy Tremble believes Bryce Young is ready to lift Panthers' offense

But Tremble knows his role, and he’s ok with it. His blocking ability was largely what got him drafted in the first place. The son of former NFL player Greg Tremble, who briefly played defensive back for the Dallas Cowboys in the 1990s, Tommy Tremble said that, back when he was drafted, he wanted to be a “violent and versatile” player for the Panthers.

He’s shown off some versatility; the first time Tremble ever touched the ball in the NFL was on a tight end reverse, and he scored on it. But he’s never had a year with more than 249 receiving yards. He hit that career high in 2025.

Last year, Tremble shared time with another former Notre Dame tight end, rookie Mitchell Evans. It looks like it will be another year where two former Fighting Irish stars lead the way for Bryce Young and the offense, even if they aren’t putting up monster numbers. Of course, if Young does take the next step in his development, they could benefit greatly.

Tremble didn’t put up monster numbers with Notre Dame either. In fact, not only was 2025 his best career season in Carolina, it was his best career season. With the Fighting Irish, he tallied just 35 receptions for 396 yards and 4 touchdowns.

That he’s done better than that in one season shows that he’s growing and developing and getting better, just like the Panthers are. Now, the former Notre Dame star, who has never been on a winning team in Carolina, might finally see that as well.
