The first couple of players from the Notre Dame football team have officially entered the transfer portal. Among them, one entry appears already slated to be headed to a hated rival of the Fighting Irish.
Kennedy Urlacher, the son of former New Mexico and Chicago Bears great Brian Ehrlacher, had looked like someone who might make a move on the depth chart after limited action in 2024. However, he’s now looking for someplace where the grass is greener.
Some Notre Dame football analysts and fans believe they know where he’s going. They think that Uhrlacher is headed to USC. The chief piece of evidence for the young safety to be looking at the Trojans is that Current USC and former Notre Dame general manager Chad Bowden played a key role in the recruiting of Urlacher during the 2024 recruiting process.
Bowden and Urlacher have had a connection since he was recruited by the Blue and Gold because he wasn’t a 4-star or 5-star product that was chased by a ton of powerful programs. In fact, back when he committed to the Fighting Irish, he made it clear Chad Bowden saw something in him that other schools didn’t.
“Coach Bowden was going crazy,” Urlacher said back when he committed.. “He was really, really happy. Coach Freeman was super pumped. He’s ready to get me there and get it started. Coach O’Leary was also really happy.”
There was a reason to be happy among the coaching staff as well. Urlacher has shown flashes since coming to South Bend. However, he was buried on a Notre Dame football depth chart that has a lot of talent in the defensive backfield. It will be interesting to see where he ends up and if USC is final landing spot.
