The Notre Dame football team is making some serious moves this winter, in recruiting and with some staff shuffles. One place where those moves have intersected is in the recruitment of linebacker Ty Ashley.
Ashley is very high on the Fighting Irish and was even before Brian Jean-Mary joined the team. However, ND's new linebackers coach has gone out of his way to make a good impression with the 2027 prospect, and it's paid off in a big way when Ashley called his offer from the Fighting Irish a "blessing."
The newest linebackers coach, who comes to South Bend from Ann Arbor, is known for his ability to attract and close on some of the big fish in the recruiting world. The offer to Ashley is not a usual one for Jean-Mary. While the linebacker is under the radar, he's starting to pick up steam and attention from power programs.

Ashley, out of Owensboro (KY), is still rated as just a 3-star prospect by the Rivals Industry Rankings, but he's racking up plenty of offers. Cincinnati, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Notre Dame, Penn State, Wake Forest, West Virginia, and Western Kentucky have all come calling, among others. The Irish are among the latest to make contact and are building up their own steam.
"Coach Reader called me last week and then Coach BJ called me (Tuesday) night and offered me," Ashley told Irish Sports Daily. "It was insane. It’s really a blessing. I’ve seen all the movies, the culture down there, and it’s definitely something I want to learn about. It’s crazy that God gave me these abilities to play the game at that level."
"I’m trying to figure out when I’m going to go up there," Ashley added. "We’re going to keep in touch until then, but I think once I get up to campus this spring, it’s really going to show me a lot. If I like them a lot, I’ll potentially take an OV there."
The next step for Notre Dame will indeed get him to take on an official role. Ty Ashley would be a nice addition to a 2027 class that's already shaping up to be among the best in the nation.
