The Notre Dame football team is using the time it's not spending getting ready for a bowl by having a ton of success on the recruiting front for the 2027 class. The latest sign of that success came on Monday afternoon in the form of the commitment of Xavier Hasan.

Hasan has been a lean to the Fighting Irish for a while now, but he made it official and added to what is a growing list of top-notch commitments for the 2027 cycle. He also becomes the second commit in less than a week for Marcus Freeman's squad.

Hasan is already the ninth commit for the 2027 class, and he's only going to help boost a class that was already in the Top 5 according to On3. When he chose the Fighting Irish, he picked them out of a group of some very powerful teams.

In addition to Notre Dame, he was considering Florida State, North Carolina, Ohio State, and Tennessee.

Certainly one of the most interesting things that Marcus Freeman has done in South Bend the last few years is make sure that recruiting is hitting new highs with the Fighting Irish. After finishing second in the 2026 class, he's got his team rolling towards another Top 5 finish next year.

Notre Dame has lost head coaches of Marcus Freeman's stature because it's easier to recruit to other places like Baton Rouge. However, the current Irish head coach has demonstrated that being a comparatively small private school doesn't have to be a hindrance.
