With 23 commits already in the boat, the Notre Dame football team seems just about done with the 2027 class. Don’t tell defensive back Zayden Gamble that, though. The Florida prospect recently took to social media to hint that there might be a 24th commit on the horizon. At the very least, it looks like Gamble is trying to work his peer recruiting magic to land someone he wants to play with in South Bend.
Gamble posted the hint on Twitter: “I feel like we need 1 more DB on Board… I think I got one in mind ☘️.” Beyond that, it’s a bit of a mystery as to who the prospect could be talking about. It almost certainly has to be a flip, considering that most of the best defensive backs have already committed to a school and Marcus Freeman’s squad isn’t known to be actively working on any more DBs in the 2027 class.
Along with Gamble, Notre Dame has three other defensive backs committed. Cornerbacks Xavier Hasan and Ace Alston and safety John Gay make up a pretty talented group of players.
Considering that the Fighting Irish have had success with their “Florida Dame” approach and Gamble is from the Sunshine State, it seems most likely that there’s another player from that state either for Freeman’s staff or the safety is working on someone in his home state.

By the numbers, it does make sense to add another defensive back to the class, as Notre Dame typically takes at least five a class. If Gamble is correct, it will be interesting to see who emerges as the target.
To make the mystery deepen further, the members of the secondary that come from Florida that the Irish haven’t already landed tend to be guys they backed off quite a while ago. Of course, it’s possible communications have quietly opened back up over the last few weeks.
This situation will certainly be one to watch, assuming that Zayden Gamble was really hinting at a move that Notre Dame is getting ready to make.
