As the calendar draws closer to National Signing Day, there are programs all over the country desperate to hang on to their top prospects as other programs try to pry those same prospects away. For Notre Dame, one of the guys other schools are trying their hardest to flip is Zayden Gamble. Is he on the verge of seeing if the grass is greener elsewhere?
The short answer is no. The longer answer is apparently, hell no.
The 5-foot-11, 190-pound 4-star safety from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, committed to Notre Dame on April 25, 2026. While it’s been several months since he pulled the trigger, Gamble recently told On3’s Mike Singer that he has absolutely no intention of decommitting and heading somewhere else.
“There’s not anything that could shift my mind off of Notre Dame,” Gamble told Singer. Now that the Fighting Irish commit is locked in with just a few months away from signing day, he can focus on his senior year while Marcus Freeman and Co. work to keep the rest of the class intact and build talent around the gifted safety.

Zayden Gamble says nothing can change his Notre Dame football commitment
It’s hardly a shock that Gamble isn’t looking around. Earlier this spring, he visited South Bend and, shortly after, decided he wanted to be with the Fighting Irish over competitors like Miami and Ohio State.
“That visit opened my eyes more than any other visit could,” Gamble told Rivals at the time. “It kind of let me know that’s where I’m going to be going.”
“I don’t know what it was… it was just different to me. When I was there, it spoke to me differently… I couldn’t even find the words to really describe how I felt. When I left the visit to Notre Dame, it was a different feeling.”
The feeling has stayed with Gamble for months, and he knows he made the right call.
That’s very good news for Notre Dame considering Gamble is ranked as the No. 129 player in the 2027 class, the No. 6 player at his safety position and the No. 14 player in the state of Florida according to the latest Rivals Industry Rankings. He’s racked up a whopping 47 offers from programs all over the country thanks to a junior year which saw him tally 65 tackles, including 50 solo stops, 3 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions, 5 passes defended, 1 forced fumble and 1 blocked field goal while helping St. Thomas Aquinas win another Florida state championship.
His comments earlier this week weren’t the first time he’d said he was shutting down his recruitment entirely, making it doubly clear he wants to help build something at Notre Dame with the players that come after him in this class and the next couple as well: “I think this could be the start of a pipeline,” he said. “It is not only going to be great for us now, and this class, but in the future at Notre Dame and the guys coming behind us.”
