The Notre Dame football team is officially on "suspension watch" for the Michigan State game.
Just before the kickoff at 7:30 pm, officials announced that there was enough concern about bad weather hitting the area. In fact, there's enough concern that not only will the bad weather hit, but it will stick around; there's already been discussion about suspending the game rather than waiting it out and playing late into the night.

When the announcement was made that there might be a weather delay at Notre Dame Stadium, there was quite a round of boos. Considering how many games have been delayed by weather this season, and on Saturday alone, it's hardly out of the question that they'll see lightning strikes in the area.
Should lightning indeed hit South Bend, the bigger question is just when the two teams might be able to make up the rest of the game. The two teams do not have a mutual bye week unless they both decide to play after the November 28 weekend. Of course, it's not entirely clear if that would even be allowed.
That, of course, means everyone involved will hope that Notre Dame and Michigan State can play Saturday's game and that nothing will stand in the way of getting the matchup in.
Of course, with new Michigan State head coach Pat Fitzgerald's team coming into the game as a 30-point dog, it's likely the Spartans wouldn't be heartbroken if the game wasn't ever played. If Saturday night's contest was suspended, he could take his team into the Big Ten with a 2-0 record and a bit of good will.
Notre Dame, on the other hand, needs to rack up as many wins in the regular season as they can. There are plenty of people who are looking for any excuse to keep the Fighting Irish out of the College Football Playoff. It would certainly be unfair to hold them out because they went 11-0 instead of 12-0, but it also feels like something the CFP committee would do.
