Notre Dame vs. Purdue lightning delay: Updates, game status, and more

Notre Dame is up 28-13, but a delay has arrived.

Thus far, it looks like Notre Dame football is well on its way to capturing its first win of the season. As of this writing, it's late in the first half and the Irish are up 28-13. However, mother nature has decided to delay the action for a little bit.

Moments ago, Notre Dame and Purdue returned to the locker rooms due to lightning in the South Bend area. At the time of the delay, there's 1:31 to go in the first half, with the Irish indeed up by 15 points. With it being so close to halftime, this is a bummer, but the two teams are expected to be off the field for at least 30 minutes:

Notre Dame started things off on offense with a bang, with CJ Carr hitting Malachi Fields for a 66-yard touchdown. However, Purdue is hanging around a bit, with fans once again nervous with Chris Ash and his defense. We'll see if the Irish can create some separation in the second half. As for the delay, we'll have running updates for you below:

Update No. 1: Play was officially stopped at 5:06 p.m. ET, with Notre Dame asking fans to seek shelter.

Update No. 2: Moments ago, 30 minutes after the delay started, Notre Dame asked for fans to continue to remain sheltered in place. There's no exact time set for when play will resume.

Update No. 3: Moments ago, the broadcast team over at NBC said that the plan is for Notre Dame and Purdue to finish the final 1:31 in the first half, and then take a short break instead of a usual halftime pause. We're still waiting on a time for the players to get back on the field.

Update No. 4: Per play-by-play announcer Dan Hicks, the two teams are going to try and get back on the field at around 6:10 for warmups, with the hopes of play getting back underway at around 6:30 p.m. ET.

Update No. 5: The latest news - the plan is for the players to take the field at 6:40. There will be a 10-minute warmup and then play will resume at 6:50 p.m. ET. Because of the delay, there indeed won't be a normal halftime, as there will be a three-minute break after the second quarter ends and then the third will get started.

Update: No. 6: The new time for play to resume is now 7 p.m. ET.
